Chandra Asri Petrochemical eyes expanding its US$ 300 million – polyethylene plant in 2017

Chandra Asri Petrochemical is planning to build a new factory. The new factory to be built is a polyethylene plant. The plant is to be built in the middle of Chandra Asri existing industrial complex, in Cilegon, Banten – West Java.

The project cost is estimated between US$300 million and US$400 million in investment. The new plant will produce 400 kilotons of polyethylene per year. Chandra Asri presently produces around 340 kilotons  of polyethylene per year. Once completed, the company polyethylene production would increase to around 740 kilotons per annum.

The forecast project execution is as follow, the new polyethylene plant designing and engineering phase is expected to start sometime in 2017 and followed by construction of the plant in 2018. The new plant is targeted to start commercial operation by 2020.

Chandra Asri Petrochemical is the Indonesia premier petrochemical producer. Chandra Asri Petrochemical operate the country only Naphtha Cracker producing high quality Olefins and Polyolefins, and is the sole domestic producer of Styrene Monomer and Butadiene. The new plant is expected to improve Chandra Asri business position among polyethylene producers in Southeast Asia. Currently, Chandra Asri is the sixth largest producer in the region.
